Waterfront Tours by the Port of Vancouver

Looking to bring real world examples to your Channel Management unit?  Want to learn more about the logistics and the economic impact of a port on the local community?  Join us on a tour of the Port of Vancouver and learn about channels of distribution and how those channels are managed as you hear what it takes to move product internationally by boat and train to reach businesses across the U.S. and in your hometown.  Attendees will leave this session with:
  • Data and facts about the economic impact of the shipping trade
  • Information and examples on logistics and supply-chain management
  • Ideas to incorporate into lessons, units, and courses

The Port of Vancouver USA is the 3rd largest and 3rd oldest port in the State of Washington. The tour will start at the Hilton Vancouver and proceed to the waterfront which is currently undergoing redevelopment by the port, City of Vancouver and Vancouver Waterfront LLC. Participants will then ride to the port’s main entrance for a tour of its grain facility (the tallest structures in Clark County) and depending on ship activity, will view steel slab, wood pulp, and metal shred. The tour then travels through the port’s mineral bulk facility, through the Subaru import yard and ends at the Terminal 5 loop track which can accommodate trains up to a mile and half long. The tour will begin and end at the Hilton Vancouver for a limited number of participants on both Friday, October 6, and Monday, October 9. The tour will start from the Hilton at 1:30 p.m. each day. Register early – space is very limited.
