New Positions Announced at MBA Research

CEO and President Dr. Brenda Clark has announced four significant organizational changes regarding new leadership positions at MBA Research. These changes in responsibilities will help the organization continue to grow and support you as you work on behalf of business and marketing programs, teachers, and students.

Rick Mangini named Executive Vice President

Rick will continue to support MBA High School and business engagement including the Business Coalition for Education. Additionally, Rick will provide support for the CEO/President and staff at MBA Research and manage operations.

Rick earned both his Bachelor's degree in Marketing Education and Master's degree in Vocational Education from The Ohio State University. His career spanned 36 plus years in education beginning as a Marketing Education teacher. He spent the last 25 years of his career with the Ohio Department of Education where he served as a consultant for Marketing Education before moving into the position of Assistant Director for Business, Marketing, and Information Technology. He finished his career as Associate State Director. Rick has also served as State Advisor for DECA and Business Professionals of America. He has also served on the Board of Directors for MBA Research, DECA, and BPA. He is an Honorary Life Member of DECA and was inducted into the National Hall of Fame for BPA. He also received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Ohio Association of Career Technical Education. Rick retired from the Ohio Department of Education in June, 2011.

Rick and his wife Nancy have two children, Sarah and Matt, and three grandchildren, Ava, Dominic, and Gabriel.

Lisa Berkey named Vice President of Strategic Communications

Lisa Berkey, formerly the director of Program Development, will expand her role at MBA Research to become the Vice President of Strategic Communications. She will still be very much involved as the strategic leader of both HSB and MBA High School as these programs continue to grow and mature. In her new role, Lisa will manage MBA Research's marketing and communication efforts.

Lisa holds an MBA with dual concentrations in marketing and project management, as well as B.S. in marketing. Prior to joining MBA Research in 2006, she worked in brand management at Borden Foods, in sales at Kellogg's, and as an adjunct marketing instructor at the University of Dayton. Outside of the office, Lisa enjoys hanging out with her husband and their three children as well as participating in a book club, collecting 5k t-shirts, and volunteering at church and school.

Holly Atha named Director of Business Engagement

Holly brings significant experience to her new position.  She previously served as a Research Associate, working to develop industry standards and the supporting learning outcomes.  Holly will now focus on business engagement, including supporting the development and growth of Coalitions, managing Futuring Panels, identifying business speakers for Conclave, and managing ExecNet. She brings a diverse business background including sales, social work, customer service, healthcare, advocacy, and account and project management with her to MBA Research. In addition to her work, Holly enjoys reading and hanging out with her family.  She has two daughters, Harris and Haviland, who also double as her running partners!

Laurie Urich Joins the HSB Team

Laurie will join the HSB team with the goal of growing the HSB program. She will work with state leaders, CTE directors, and teachers to launch HSB programs in additional states and schools in addition to providing support for select states at the Leadership Forum. 

Laurie comes with broad experience in business and marketing education. A former high school business administration teacher, she served as program leader for the Colorado secondary and postsecondary programs until her retirement. In that capacity, she was instrumental in the development of Colorado MBA High School of Business™ sites. 

Laurie's leadership skills are evident in the myriad positions she has held and the honors she has received. A former MBA Board Trustee, she has served on the national FBLA Board, as President of the National Association of Supervisors of Business Education, and in various state leadership roles. She was honored by Colorado DECA with its lifetime member recognition, and by NBEA with its Distinguished Service Award.
