Columbus, OH: Earlier this month, MBA Research hosted two Ethics Summits for middle and high school students at the 2024 FBLA National Fall Leadership Conference.
Middle School Ethics Summit
At the Middle School Ethics Summit, we debuted our brand new Middle School Interactive Ethics Event, an engaging resource designed to teach students about decision-making and career exploration through real-life ethical dilemmas!
To kick off the morning, students separated into small groups based on their chosen careers and discussed different ethical dilemmas, examining one from the perspective of a middle schooler and another from a business professional’s point of view. Each dilemma focused on specific ethical principles that guided their discussions:
- Fairness & Respect
- Trust & Transparency
- Integrity & Responsibility
Students charted their progress on an Ethics Passport, where they reflected on which principles resonated most and identified the career they were most interested in.
The middle school event concluded with a business panel discussion featuring two members of our Executive Advisory Network (ExecNet):
- Mike Rill, Director of Warehouse Business Development at EASE Logistics
- Carson Reider, Senior Associate of Marketing Strategy at JPMorgan Chase
High School Ethics Summit
The afternoon’s High School Ethics Summit opened with a panel of the same business speakers who shared their experiences and insights about ethical behavior in supply chain management and digital marketing. After the panel discussion, students had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in one-on-one conversations with the speakers.
Following the panel, the high school students separated into small groups to participate in various activities based on our Ethics Boot Camp, which included:
- Beach Ball Toss
- Model Behavior
- Lost at Sea
- Ethics Cases
During the events, students enjoyed the opportunity to meet and collaborate with students from other schools, hear directly from business professionals, and make connections between ethics and their everyday lives.
Making an impact: Thanks to the generous support of the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative, we reached over 30 middle school students and more than 60 high school students, fulfilling the mission of integrating ethical behavior into their lives and future careers.
